Lower Back Problems Explained

Like the neck, the lumbar spine is composed of bones (vertebra) and discs (the shock absorbers).

These are X-ray examples of normal lumbar spines. The gravity red line indicates the direction of force being transmitted through the spine. Note the healthy size of the discs at each level.

You’ll have to take my word for it, but look at these x-rays of individuals all who are suffering with chronic back pain and/or sciatica (pain down the back of the leg).

What do they have in common? Changes in the curve of the spine, and/or the position of the gravity line?

Changes in the gravity line or the curve in the back cause abnormal loading of the joints and/or discs. This which can eventually lead to pain or premature wear and tear, much like how faulty steering in your car causes tire wear and poor handling, Chiropractic treatment is an effective way of restoring normal movement to the spine.

At Mawson Lakes Chiropractic, your chiropractor is trained to identify problems, and if necessary use corrective techniques to restore your normal lumber spine alignment.
